Born in 1937, the author Lee Kuei-Hsien is a well-known Taiwanese writer and poet. He has been writing poetry since 1953, and has been a member of the International Academy of Poets in England since 1976. Hundreds of his works have been translated and published in many countries worldwide, including Japan, Korea, Canada, India, Mongolia, Russia, and others. He has received numerous national and international awards of poetry, including Korea's Distinguished Asian Poet Award in 1993, Taiwan's Lai Ho Literature Prize and Premier Culture Prize in 2001, India’s Michael Madhusadan Poet Award in 2002 and many more. In 2001, 2003, and 2006, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature by the International Poets Academy of India. The title of the current book,The Hour of Twilight, originated from the first sentence of the first poem in this collection of poems. The line reads, “The Tower—The Hour of Twilight is Coming.” In this collection, Lee selected the 70 chef-d'oeuvres by himself. The selection encompasses a variety of themes and styles, in which some of the poems are lyrical while others are critical. In particular, travel poems are abundant in the selection, signifying the journeys that Lee has accomplished, and the international view point he acquired along the way. The Russian translator Adolf P. Shvechikof was born in 1937 in Shakhty City, Russia. He is a distinguished poet, translator and a chemical physicist. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003, and is a member of numerous international literary associations, including the International Poets Academy, the World Poets Parliament, and the International Association of Litterateur and Artists.
