The City of Rebels: Dark Journal in Taipei (no English edition) was edited by professor Wang Chin-hung, and it was also co-authored by nine students from the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning at National Taiwan University. Through the unique city guide, it leads readers to a city existing outside of mainstream values. “The rebels” refers not only to a group of people that usually organize protests and fight for human rights, but also to the people or things that are edged out, despised, and stigmatized by society. This book introduces 52 places and events that happened in Taipei. It attempts to guide readers through the controversies and the underlying structure of the rebels from the perspective of protest places, political rights, gender issues, adolescent subjectivity, opposing forced eviction activities, and historic preservation. By sorting out these issues, awareness of the landscape and isolated memories of the city, readers may gain deeper knowledge about the history of rebels in Taiwan.
