Fang Yaw-chien (born 1958) is a Taiwanese poet and distinguished professor of the Department of Taiwanese Languages and Literature at National Taichung University of Education. He was previously the chief editor of Taiwanese Literature Battlefront and Kuann-bang-hue Poetry Magazine. He has been devoted to the promotion of Taiwanese language education and training qualified native instructors. Furthermore, he served as one of the main drafters of the Development of National Languages Act.
This collection of Taiwanese poetry, Every Place I Set My Foot on is Taiwan, includes 51 poems written by the author as he traveled to various countries, spanning 22 in total, and participated in poetry festivals in each place. Through the sensitivity and reason of a poet, Fang Yaw-chien records everything he sees and hears with his “Heart from Taiwan and love for the world.” As a poet nestled in a Taiwan worldview, looking through a Taiwanese lens, he observes the human history of foreign lands simultaneously reflecting on the same history of Taiwan while engaging in cultural exchange in exotic locales.
